Board of Directors Information and Application Form
What is GLAVREF?
GLAVREF builds partnerships that strengthen the power of scientific discovery and education to improve the lives of Veterans. Established in 2018, the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Research and Education Foundation (GLAVREF) is the result of a merger between two long-standing non-profit corporations that served Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health System (VAGLAHS). Since inception, the non-profit corporations have managed approximately $300 million dollars of grants; more recently, GLAVREF managed $25 million over the past three years. Our organization believes that excellence in administration and capacity building will contribute to a stronger, more responsive, and nimble research operation at VAGLAHS.
Why should I participate as a Board member for GLAVREF?
The GLAVREF board is looking to expand membership especially in the areas of marketing, legal, and finance. GLAVREF board members provide input into the long-term vision and growth of the organization as well as the short-term goals of increasing funding, dissemination of research findings, and further medical education and research that directly benefits Veterans.
What is the time commitment?
The voluntary time commitment is estimated at 15-20 hours each year to participate in meetings as well as review relevant documents. There are quarterly board meetings that last two (2) hours. Materials are circulated in advance for review. Each board member also sits on at least one internal committee, such as the nominations, policy, or finance committee. These committees also have quarterly meetings in advance of each board meeting.
